Free Wills Clinic To Be Held By Greenville County Human Relations Commission’s Financial Empowerment Center July 24th!

Legacy planning is very important for families. It allows families to have the tough conversations early on before the inevitable or a traumatic event takes place. But what is legacy planning?

We often think of legacy planning strictly as estate planning. So what’s the difference? Estate planning focuses heavily on tangible assets and wealth building. While legacy planning includes the handling of physical assets, it also focuses on instructions on what to do if you need someone to make decisions for your kids if they are under 18, someone to make decisions for you if you have medical choices to make, and you are unable to do so.

Both estate planning and legacy planning REQUIRE specific legal documents that should be in place. These documents are nothing more than instructions for what you want to happen to your assets and who you trust to make tough decisions if you are not able to. In general, a will is instructions for what you want to happen to your assets, while a Power of Attorney is someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you are unable.

On July 24, the Greenville County Human Relations Commission’s Financial Empowerment Center (GFEC) will partner with the SC Bar Association (SC Bar Association) to create free wills and power of attorney documents for those who qualify based on income. Having these documents drafted by attorneys can be quite expensive, and these two entities are partnering to bring this service to Greenville for FREE! Spaces are limited and filling up fast!
